What is Yoga?
Neither a religion nor a series of exercises, hatha yoga is
similar to other body-centred practices that originated in Asia.
It is an ancient holistic approach to health and self-development
that begins with the human body as a way to affect our physical,
mental, emotional and spiritual being. With the physical practice,
breathing and meditation we learn to calm the thoughts of the
mind. We awaken and discover the luminous intuition that lies
within all of us to create true health, happiness and peace.
Why the heat?
The room is moderately heated to promote sweating which assists
in detoxifying the body. A warmer body can take advantage of improved
muscle and tissue elasticity and reduces the risk of injury.
Hydrate: If you are planning to come to class,
drink a lot of water during the day. Have at least 500ml of water
within two hours prior to class. Have fluids if needed during
class and hydrate yourself well after class.
Rest: If you feel weak, dizzy or nauseous –
rest. Lie down until you feel you are able to participate again.
Be aware that when you start a yoga practice, the heat, forward
and backward bending movements can add to the feeling of nausea
and dizziness.
| "BUT I’m really tight and not flexible!"
All of the poses are accessible to the beginner. All students
take a rest when they need to.
Come with a flexible mind! You don't need to be physically flexible.
All you need is to start with where you are today, focus on letting
go, sweat, breath, move, and respect your limitations.
For a slower pace with more attention given to alignment, classes
designated for beginners may suit you. The Basics class has the
same standard flow as the open class but gives particular emphasis
to the foundational postures, deepening the student's knowledge
of alignment, physical condition, and spirit.
"If you truly believe in the presence within you, the love
in your heart will guide you and you'll naturally flow from your
inner light. Just show up, shine and be yourself." –
Baron Baptiste
What are the benefits?
In Power yoga, you will develop a strong upper and lower body
and a powerful core through the vinyasa and repetitive movement
that strengthens and tones the arms, shoulders, spine and mid-section.
In a Power yoga class your body goes through all possible ranges
of movement.
In general, hatha yoga poses have internal benefits that affect
body organs and systems. Yoga is fantastic for developing a healthy,
toned body and a calm clear mind. |
